Halloumi Cheese is the Best Cheese for Grilling| Charalambides Christis

April 15, 2022

Have you ever grilled cheese? If not, here’s a new challenge for you!

And there is no better cheese for this challenge other than Cypriot halloumi cheese. You can grill it and enjoy it, hot, soft and chewy, in endless recipes.

So, if you are a fan of cheese, how about tasting some grilled cheese? And don’t worry at all, you won’t see it melted after a while as every other cheese you might have tried to grill.

Here’s how simple it is.

How to grill halloumi

Remove the halloumi cheese from its package and cut it into slices of about 1.2-1.4 inches with a knife. While you cut it, you will hear the characteristic squeaking sound of this cheese, just like when you chew it.

Bring your oven grill or grill pan to a medium to high temperature and grill the halloumi slices for approximately three minutes on each side, until you see them turning golden. You can use some olive oil, but it is not necessary. Remove the cheese from the oven or the grill pan and place it on absorbent paper towel.

That’s it! Your grilled halloumi cheese, juicy and crunchy, is ready to accompany any recipe you can imagine.

You can add it to your green salad, grilled vegetables or accompany it with delicious fresh fruit, such as cherries, berries, peaches or watermelon, as well as nuts, honey or jams.

It is the perfect topping for your veggie souvlaki or burger, while it can also add a special taste to pastas and spaghetti! Do not forget that halloumi is rich in calcium and protein, elements important to your body.

Whatever grilled halloumi recipe you choose this spring, you will fall in love with it!
