Trademark

The name "HALLOUMI-ΧΑΛΛΟΥΜΙ " is registered as a "Certified Trademark" in Cyprus, the USA, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Syria, Egypt and South Africa, owned by the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry. On the 31/01/2020 the Ministry was approved for the registration of a new Certificate of Trademark in the United Kingdom with the name ‘‘HALLOUMI CERTIFICATION MARK’’ which came to effect on 17/05/2018.

A certified trademark is a trademark that indicates that the goods or the services for which they are used are certified by the owner of that particular trademark regarding its quality, accuracy and precision or other features it has. This includes its origin, ingredients, or the way the goods are made as well as how the completion of the goods is carried out by their services (Article 37A of the Law on Trademarks).

"HALLOUMI" has also been registered from 14/7/2000 in EUIPO as a "Community Collective Trademark" owned by the "Foundation for the Protection of the Traditional Cheese of Cyprus named Halloumi" ("the Foundation"). Until January 2013, the owner of the brand was the Cyprus Dairy Products Manufacturers Association (hereinafter "CDPMA"), which was dissolved. On January 2013 and before the dissolution of OKGB, the trademark was transferred to the Foundation. The foundation was established by the Republic of Cyprus and the OKGB and has two bodies: the Board of Directors and the Halloumi Producers Committee.

In Canada, the Ministry owns the registered trademark "HALOMI".

Registration procedures for the ‘’HALLOUMI’’ to be a Certified Trademark are now in progress in Australia, China, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Japan. Meanwhile, possible new markets are being studied.
