The dairy products of Cyprus and especially the halloumi cheese, are considered the type of food that defines our identity as people, they have their own hidden history, which has marked the history of the country throughout the centuries. The Cyprus Food and Nutrition Museum announces the release of the publication: "The Dairy Culture of Cyprus: History-Traditions-Folklore". This volume is co-published with the help of Charalambides Christis company.

The Minister of Agriculture, Mr Costas Kadis appeared particularly optimistic and reassuring during his statements to the CNA (Cyprus News Agency), in Limassol, regarding the discussions and apprehensions that followed the announcement of the implementation date on the decision for the halloumi registration as a Protected Destination of Origin (PDO) product.

Despite the 7-year long wait regarding Halloumi’s special protection trademark, the greatly desired status ensuring the country’s product origin and uniqueness, is postponed due to legal arrangements.

Traditionally in Cyprus, halloumi is enjoyed sliced with watermelon or in a sandwich. It is always on the family table with every meal. When heated, culinary worlds open up to this rare Cyprus cheese. Once grilled or fried, the cheese's saltiness fades into a strong, savoury bite with a slightly creamy texture.
